New here [24 Aug 2012|07:31pm]

I've made a group on Facebook to share, archive and add information:

I myself am a 26-year-old Priestess, practicing in an eclectic style under the Goddess Sekhmet.
I have a 9-month old son, and follow my life within a natural/technological balance. Right now, it's very hot, so to live without our A/C is next to impossible, at least for our safety. So I figure my path shifts, having a more technological balance in the extreme months, and then a more natural balance in the easier seasons. I recycle as much as I can and run a small, natural bath, body and home-based business, where I make everything by hand.

I live in a small, bible-belt town where it's really hard to find like-minded pagans. So, online is pretty much my only resource.

I am open to making friends if I feel like we'll get along. If you'd like to add me, please comment on my sticky. :)

Crisis of Faith [08 Jul 2012|05:31pm]

Hi everyone, I'm brand-new here, and I hope it's okay to just kind of... launch right into things. I have a question... or.. well a problem, and I'm seeking advice.

See, I've been going through a lot lately, (much of it involving health) and unfortunately it's begun to affect my faith. I hadn't thought about it a whole lot for a while, but these days... I feel like I want to reach out to it, but at the same time I'm not... sure there's something to reach out to?

My belief has generally been that there's something out there so grand and beyond the scope of anything we know that our minds can't really grasp it. Much the same way that an ant can't grasp that it's walking on the toe of a big ol' human, or something. It's just that big. But because that doesn't sit well with people, different cultures and groups gave this being different names, and applied different faces, aspects, and even personalities onto it.

It's kind of like looking at a gemstone. It has many different sides or faces, but it's all the same stone.

The problem with this is, it leaves my at a very odd place. Because it means that I don't know if prayers or rituals or anything really have any kind of effect. And in turn, if things like magic have any effect (magik? magick?).

I want to believe it can. I want to believe one can manipulate their aura, meditate, or possibly even astral project. Send out positive or healing energies through prayer or 'spells' or such. Ground themselves, etc.

But then, my scientific side says there's no proof of any such thing and any perceived effects are purely caused by the human mind being more that capable and willing to trick itself and makes us feel/see what we want.

But... if it makes me feel steadier, safer, more at peace to do these things, is it bad? Am I just lying to myself? Blinding myself? That's no good...

And what if it is real? Even to a small degree? Does that help me? hurt me? am I depriving myself of something by turning away from it? Blinding myself with extreme logic?

I don't know @_@

((cross-posted pretty much all over the place. Sorry if you see it a lot))

Full Moon Tree of Life Pendant Trilogy [06 Jun 2012|01:50pm]

My Under A Halloween Moon tree of life pendant has been a HUGE success for me. People really love it. And in the past, I've offered other versions of the "full moon" style on a very limited, custom order basis. That, however, has changed.

Now you can also order two additional versions; Under A Full Moon (silver wire with a white moon) AND "Once In A Blue Moon" (silver wire with a blue moon.) This completes my full moon "trilogy" as it were. ;)

All three are now permanently available as made-to-order pieces in the shop!

Been hard at work making new items for the shop and today I got five new pieces photographed and listed!

Between two new trees - a multi colored Opal and a watermelon tourmaline - and two pairs of sterling hoops (rainbow gemstone and emerald green aventurine) and even a new pair of 14k gold threader earrings in a rainbow of color, there's a lot more variety available right now in the shop!

And, as always, I gladly accept custom orders so if you don't see exactly what you want, just ask! I'll be happy to make it for you.

What's new at PhoenixFireDesigns.etsy.com! [16 Sep 2011|03:44pm]

Well, first off, after spending the ENTIRE summer on medications trying to get myself safe enough for surgery, looks like my hysterectomy will be on October 5th.

For those who've missed the updates, I'm 34 and over Memorial Day weekend, I went into the ER in massive pain, only to discover my uterus is full of tumors. Literally pounds of them. So much in fact, I was unsafe for surgery. I have over $10,000 in hospital bills and trying to raise the final $600 I need for surgery. (Of a total of $2,600 total.)

I've been on UNPAID medical leave this whole time (my last paycheck was June 3rd) so trying to pay my regular bills has been a challenge, let alone raising EXTRA money for surgery.

So here's a look at what's new in my shop. Sales help me with living expenses, medical bills and surgery costs. All the info can be found here.

Even if you can't buy something, just passing on the link in your twitter, facebook, blog, etc. is greatly appreciated!

Thank you for your support!

Medical Fundraising for Needed Surgery [09 Jun 2011|12:42pm]

You can follow the progress of visits, current health, etc on my blog with my hysterectomy tag but this is just a summary of the situation. The full details can also be found here: http://giveneyestosee.com/blog/hysterectomy/

Memorial Day Weekend I went into the ER after two days of non-stop severe pain. Many tests and an overnight stay later, it turns out that my uterus is full of tumors.I have multiple softball and multiple baseball sized fibroid tumors and equally large cysts. The total mass is approximately the size of a basketball.

I was on a fast-track for a hysterectomy when my OB/GYN discovered that it was worse then initially believed and I'm too high risk for surgery. High risk is 250 grams of tumors. I'm at over 1,200 grams. I am now on a shot to induce medical menopause in order to attempt to shrink the tumors prior to surgery. The larger the tumors, the more complicated and lengthy the surgery, the more time I will be under anesthesia, the more complications and blood transfusions I will need. So we're trying to get them shrunk at least half.

I work a part-time job that does NOT give me insurance. I also do NOT get paid for any time off period. So I’m already out two weeks of pay with many more to come. (When I do have surgery, I'll be out 4 weeks in unpaid recovery as well.) I have already applied for and been denied financial and medical assistance by the state. I’m asking anyone who can help for your support as a result.

I need a total of $2,600 just to pay my OB/GYN, $1,400 of which must be up front before the surgery. This does NOT include the hospital, anesthesiologist, radiology, etc. It also does NOT include the fees for the office visits and tests pre-op. (I’ve already spend $463 on those as of June 7th)

I have set up a Donation Fund here: http://tiny.cc/hysterectomy

I am also trying to promote my own store front as replacement income during this period: http://PhoenixFireDesigns.etsy.com/

My friends are also helping me set up a second shop full of donated items. You can find that here: http://PhoenixFunds.etsy.com/

If you could look around and see if there's something you'd like to buy, pass on my links, donate a hand crafted item, craft supplies or a vintage item for the fundraiser shop or make a donation - any of it would be helpful and appreciated. The more people pass on my information, links and story, the more I can hopefully raise the funds I need.

Thank you for your support!

Hi Im new here [27 Sep 2010|10:42am]

[ mood | hopeful ]

My name is Rob or sometimes Cynthia. I am a male to female crossdresser ( I dont do it very often though) and consider myself part Fae though I have no way to prove that to anyone. I know how odd that sounds too but I promise Im not insane lol.

I am very much a novice in the spiritual world. I have had Bast as my Patron Goddess for several years now but have recently had visits from the Faerie Queen (who wants me to call her Zara) and another Goddess who I believe is Artemis.

I am a nice guy and am open minded to all beliefs. I wont always agree with what people believe but unless they outright attack my beliefs I wont attack theirs. The main core of my belief system is we are each on our own paths and they will be different. It is whatever works for us and makes us better for it.

I also need to point out as I have had problems with this is pagan communities in the past that I don't believe the ancient Myths of Bast or any other Gods and Goddesses are written in stone. If a God or Goddess choses to appear to someone in a way that goes against every known story of them then that really is their choice. That is not to say I believe myself special in some way that a Goddess will make a special appearance just for me. I believe that they appear to each one of their followers differently. I am not the special one, everyone is the special one.
For example I got no impression of the Goddess who turns men into stags and then sicks her hounds on them because they saw her naked version of Artemis when she appeared to me (I think it's her I'm not 100% on this) I got the impression of a strong willed, powerful, and somewhat wild woman who demands respect but is willing to let men follow her just as much as women as long as they show her that respect. I am still in the process of finding out if it actually is her and what she wants with me.

I am not sure what else to add here as I am quite new and I will probably be a bit shy at first. I just hope I can find welcome here and look forward to discussions. I have in my lj a description of my recent encounter with who I believe to be Artemis and a circle casting I did that had some interesting results. Feel free to check those out as well.

[ mood | amused ]

I have this mild obsession with bad movies about "witches". The more ridiculous the better.

Does anyone remember this? It's somewhat horrific.

On that note, does anyone have any recommendations for good "witch" movies? I know Hocus Pocus, of course the Wizard of Oz, Witches of Eastwick, The Witches (with Anjelica Huston), The Craft...you know, the "Classics". Ooo...and Tin Man is a new favourite.

Intro post [16 Dec 2008|02:16pm]

[ mood | awake ]

So hi. I wandered in here hoping for an eclectic pagans' group, and here you are.

I was raised United Methodist with a Baptist (ugh) elementary education, and I began to reject the tenets of Christianity around age 19 or so, when I began to believe that there was no way God is male. I studied Wicca, looked at Asatru, did a good bit of reading on Buddhism, and wound up making up my own path based upon my observations of the world and my studies.

I believe in a Creator who is neither male nor female but encompasses both in perfect balance and who is the source of all power and energy, creative and destructive. I believe that you can draw upon the Creator's power through prayer and ritual, but I don't do a lot of that. I believe that I should sort my own problems out wherever possible, and only bother the Creator when something is beyond my capabilities.

I was very glad to find in the past entries to this community a list of pagan charities. It has displeased me for quite some time that it can be difficult to find pagan charities, but I'm particularly pleased with Officers of Avalon, as my honey is also pagan and a paramedic, and there appears to be an active chapter of OoA in Daytona Beach, which is not terribly far away.

Anyway, I'm glad this community is here. Thanks!

I don't know, I'm still learning [01 Dec 2008|12:27am]

Lately it seems all around me people are discussing religion, spirituality, the divine, and beliefs in terms of how to define it, what it is and isn't, who's a poser, what's real, etc.
So I wanted to write a little about myself and get some opinions. I'm being very raw and honest here, and I don't think I've ever really discussed this with anybody before, so I'm very interested in what people have to say.
As a child, my family was generally agnostic Christian... God, angels, jesus, but that's it. My mom and grandma grew up in a generally Mormon family but i'm thankful that they never passed it on to me, since I find it to be a lot of rubbish, but that's just me. I basically believed in God and angels because that's what I was taught but never gave it much thought. Never went to church, never prayed or said my blessings before bed, etc. Was very curious however with the supernatural, psychics, aliens, etc.
On my 13th birthday a friend of my mom's gave me a book on Wicca by Silver Ravenwolf. Now, I know a lot of people think she's a fluff bunny, etc. and generally don't like her, but damn that book hit home for me and made more sense to me than anything else I had ever read, and I do have a lot of respect for her as an author and what she teaches.
I began reading books by Silver Ravenwolf as well as Scott Cunningham, but while Wicca and Paganism rang true for me much more than anything else I'd ever learned about, it still didn't quite seem to fit. I went through my fluff bunny phase but got over it quickly.
At 16, went through existentialist Athiest phase, but shortly thereafter went through a bunch of life changes and trials that made me rethink life and my beliefs. I realized that I don't know everything, no one does, and life isn't simple and black and white, and some things are simply unexplainable by rationale and science.
During this point in my life, I was 18-19 and went through a big re-evaluation of my beliefs and spirituality. I read and read about religion and spirituality, took a Religious Studies class in college, and since then, I am 20 now and frankly I'm not sure where I fit.
I consider myself Eclectic... that's the best, most specific way I can describe my beliefs, which isn't very specific at all. I just don't know where or what I am, but unlike my younger days, i don't feel such an urgent need to define it, but curiosity and a bit of a feeling of being lost.
I believe in a lot of Buddhist, Wiccan, and Pagan teachings, a bit of Hindu as well. I do believe there is a divine force out there, I'm just not sure what or who it is. And as far as Christianity, Islam, etc. I have a lot of problems with their teachings as far as Hell, "Sin", homosexuality, etc.
I think that the deities of the world are all just facets and different interpretations of this supreme force, though I don't really know how to define this thing other than as the universe, love, life, etc. I am a very strong believer in Astrology and have been studying it for the past few months.I've been also studying and practicing Lucid Dreaming, as well as communicating with the "other side". I also believe in karma very much so as I've observed it first hand. I believe in "Magick" or however you want to define it. I also believe that Prayer and positive, proactive thinking do work. I am an artist and am learning massage therapy as well as color and crystal/stone therapy. I meditate regularly as well. My beliefs basically go off of what I have experienced and learned to be true first hand. I'm a bit of a skeptic sometimes.
I have an alter, a small one, but its mine and I cherish it. It brings me comfort and inspiration and a place to pray, spellcast, meditate, and think. It consists of a picture of my foster mom who died over a year ago, a few happy chinese buddhas (the fat ones) as they've always been very important to me as a deity, spiritual representation, however you want to call it, a Shiva Statuette, A Goddess charm (The Goddess and femininity are very important to me), some of my stones such as my rose quartz that I take everywhere for me (promotes love, calm, especially for children of abusive parents from what I've read), and my meditation balls, which are especially important to me.
I try not to judge anybody or start arguments, as I really don't like conflict or hurting others (yes, I'm a wimp). I'm somewhat of a pacifist, though I'm prone to being a typical mischevious Gemini. I try to treat others as I would like to be treated, be kind to everyone and help people when I can.I've been very much a victim to cruelty and abuse, and frankly I hate the idea of anyone suffering.  Sure I understand its a part of life and I can't help everyone, but I'm the type if you're not feeling the best I'll give you a hug, a cup of tea, and a back massage, and probably make you a bead animal full of love.
So this is my little musing and I would love some feedback, guidence, observations, advice, anything you want to offer me.

hello [24 Sep 2008|10:33pm]

Hello everyone.
My name is Rin and I found this community recently and decided to join. Today I have a question for you all:

I was interested in reading "Evolutionary Witchcraft" after I finish my present literary endeavors, and I was looking for feedback from any of you who might have already read the book. I was able to read the first few pages at Amazon tonight, but that usually leaves much to the imagination. This book caught my interest about a week ago, but when i saw it in the store the other day, I decided to wait, not really knowing what it was about and not looking into it because I have others on my plate. However, a few days ago, I started looking into what limited information is out there on the Feri Tradition. The only books I could find on the subject was this one and "fifty years of Feri" from Cora Anderson, who was the wife of the founder and i think the co founder? However reviews stated that fifty years was a little cryptic and mystic at times, and I figured that Evolutionary Witchcraft might go deeper into points of philosophy and practice exercises with a little more clarity, explaining how to do the exercises, but also what they mean and the symbols in them.

It seems, at the first glance I've taken at it, that information on this tradition is hard to come by since alot of Feri's philosophy's and teachings are told only to initiates. However, if any of you happen to have any information on the tradition or on the book, please share!

Thanks in advance!

Some useful information to all interested [23 Sep 2008|07:09pm]

Greetings and brightest blessings to all!

Recently, in my numerous travels i had the great pleasure of attending a quaint little Mabon celebration called the Fall Frolic.
their website is http://www.thefallfrolic.com  and it was, to say the least, quite a magickal and rewarding experience. this was their second year, and the attendance of 98 people as opposed to the 60 people from the first year was a very good increase, as they are sure to have more interest in this next year. On the Frolic occurred this past weekend, on the weekend of Mabon, the Wiccan harvest holiday, and started with the opening ritual. This I of course missed since it was located in Milford PA and I was driving all the way up from Cumberland County New Jersey. but friday presented with a few concerts, featuring The Patchwork Quilt Fallacy, a Potluck Dinner, and a rather warming Bonfire that went on through the night. My new found friend Greg was on hand teaching those interested in the fine art of making mead, and well, there was plenty of mead to be shared and bought (lol) The morning had a yoga and meditation class, followed by breakfast and several good workshops, including the magick of trees, hosted by Blythe Foxmore, and a shamanism class taught by the well reknowned Colleen Deatsman. I was completely enthralled. something about this place just lit up the fire elements inside of me and I am sure it did the same for the rest of the attendees. a great ritual and Feast were to follow with music from an artist called Fiz, and another one called Katrin. later that eve, we were summoned to the fire circle for a night of spiritual exploration with drumming, dancing, firespinners and more and more MEAD!(yay!) we went well into the wee morning hours, and as our weary shells gave into Nyx's slumber call, we parted untill the following morning.

Sunday Boasted of more classes, and a small warrior games tourney where i placed second only to one, which my award was again mead! outstanding! then lunch was served, and as the attendees began closing up their tents and finishing up their visits to the vendor tents, we held a closing ceremony and went our merry ways. talks have already started about next years event, as I am sure it is to be much bigger and better than this one.

those interested can visit the website above to see what we had to offer this year. It's a family outting, so bring the kids if you are interested, as there will be activities for them to partake in. and since it is in fact a family outting, please note it is not a skyclad event. though me being without a shirt didn't seem to bother anyone.

my next venture is of course samhain at Gallows hill in Salem. more to come later.

All Fae Dae, September 21st, Everywhere You Make It [02 Sep 2008|08:58am]

The eyes of the king are upon Ye!

All Fae Dae
(September 24th, "to be celebrated the Sunday before,
which is September 21st this year)

"Isn't it about time for the magical to have an "over the top" holiday, one of good intent? We, the Indigo, Shaman, Fae, Pagan, Spiritually inspired artist, need A Calendar Hallmark Moment each and every year, one worthy of handmade greeting cards and not the cheesy store bought kind, for our special people. This holiday must never go commercial.

We must aspire to do for others on this day, through the works of our own hands, words of love, wisdom and encouragement, moments of great affection (Just ask before you grab.)."

These are some of the suggestions of The Faery King in addition to these.

(And yes, the 24th of September is his birthday.)

It is also the time of Harvest, of Mabon. Yom Kippur, Rosh Hashanah, Autumnal Equinox. Call it what you like but make this a great day, one of amnesty for transgressions through the atonement of making people feel better about themselves, creating together. Just create it, call it and make it happen.)

Let the festivities begin around noon and continue through the night. (Until it's called.)Read more...Collapse )

(You might want to plan to go to work late on Monday, if at all. Sunday is everyone's day, by the way. That is why it is to be celebrated on Sunday.)

Healing through art.

Little prayer boats of flowers, candles, lanterns and floating sage and incense for water.

Glow sticks, works of art and little lights floating too.

(Lakes, swimming pool, bath tubs are big cauldrons, no?
An elemental altar.

Sand castles and paintings.

An altar of cream, sweet cakes and sparkles for the Fae.

Chalk mandala in peet moss.

Altars of good intent constructed by guests.

Planned and spontaneous performance.

Drum, dance and other instruments.

An alchemic feast, where food is prepared by the community together, with a drum or three.

Flower petals.

Build with blocks together.

Erector sets.

Make an instrument.

Play cards, it is Sunday for Goddess sake.

Mead and Ale for those who do and nectar for those who don't drink.

Toast Queen Mab.

Toast the Goddess,
The ancestors and the elders, as well.

Public expressions of gratitude to others,
Mad hugging of people and trees,
(Say Hi to Thor if it's an Oak)

As a tribute to Pan, take bits of food and chalices of beverage; feed and beverage your friends from your own hand. Do not let them lift a finger for awhile, until they are satisfied
Keep a never ending story book, where each guest contributes one word to the book that tells our story, a chain of wish beads, contributed one by one for your community.

Sacred geometry.

Shakers and rattles to go with the beats.

Prayer flags.

Singing bowls.

Sand painting.

Water sharing.

Touching the elements with song and poems,
Draw, paint, sew, create, design.

Touch the Divine!
All magical instruments, (HANG it, if you got it!)
Plenty of sage and incense.

Masks and finery.

(sky clad and body paint where you can)
A bardic effort.

Incantation and chant.

The host must bless the crowd at midnight.

A huge OM at dusk. "Good bye the Sun, thank you for making our day."
Keep your dreams and imagination on this, adding or subtracting to the list.

Make it your day!

The inspiration for the Faery King's proclamation of this holiday comes from many places, but the better part of it came from Sacred Soulfire, an amazing magical experience, July 4th weekend 2008, through the efforts of Shaman mz imani and the magick that she brings to the world, as she helps others to co-create, build community, as we help ourselves and others bring peace to the world in our lifetime. Sacred Soulfire is the place of great change!

This year the Phaerex is in a state of celebration for 48 years of a very magical life of ups, downs and lessons, sometimes given at the hands of The Fae, a life in which he envies noone, living or dead. It is gonna be a big party, hopefully in many places.

The house will be a rockin, as the wizardly are working it and talking!

A Few Questions About Pagan Periodicals [29 Aug 2008|05:29pm]

Hi! I’ve got a few questions for you lovely people. My friends and I are currently in the process of creating a pagan magazine. We’ve found that the largest and most widely distributed pagan magazines are unfulfilling- being mostly anecdotal and catering to a less mature set.

The magazine we’re hoping to come out with, Thorn, will be an attempt to bring academia and investigative  journalism into the market- interviews with the heads of various sects, reprintings of source materials, reviews of music and games, articles on modern and ancient paths, fiction and art. We intend to have a website with content not published, archives, and discussion forums. We want to go the whole nine and make a truly excellent magazine.

I’d love to hear your own gripes and opinions about pagan periodicals or any suggestions you might have for such a magazine. If you have the time, I’d be ever so grateful if you’d pop in and take our marketing survey here. We have prizes!

Let's chillax together, shall we? [25 Aug 2008|07:34pm]

[ mood | :D ]

I've been thinking a lot lately about charity and service (inside and outside of the pagan community). My main issue being that there's a lot of talk and not a lot of action. But it's been said before and I'm not here to preach (Ooo...that awful word).

So, first, some links!

Some links from the Circle Sanctuary for Pagan groups doing charity work.

The Open Hearth Foundation makes me happy. The first Pagan Community Center.

A list of pagan charities from Mind'n'Magick.

Another list.

Officers of Avalon are really an amazing group of people.

Avalon Cares was a creation of Officers of Avalon which is down now but I feel it's worth mentioning.

Goddess Moon Circles Helping and Warming Program.

One of the best articles about Pagan Charity, "It's For a Good Cause (Really)". Just as a warning, Pagans Donate appears to be no more.

And now for a personal anecdote.

Last year I was possessed by the urge to do something. As most often happens, when one is possessed by an urge "something" is done and "something" is accomplished. Whether it was what you initially intended to do or accomplish is completely besides the point. That urge led to charity365 which just recently hit it's one year anniversary. My goal, as it was, was to do at least one thing everyday to help other people or the planet. For the most part, due to my life being a little insane, all I did was click once a day at the Greater Good Network and the Ecology Fund, play a little FreeRice.com and donate some money here and there. Which wasn't bad for a first go around.

The funny thing was that hitting that goal made me feel good. Really, really good. So good, in fact, that I was possessed by another urge (oh, boy).

This urge is a little more ambitious, however. This year I want to get other people involved. I want to ask others to join me to do one thing, every day, that makes the world just a little bit better.

So once a week I'm going to post the links (behind a cut, because courtesy does make the world better) and ask everyone to save them to their favourites. I'm going to ask that we take five minutes a day to just do something. Because something is better than nothing.

For this first post, the links are not behind a cut.

Thought I might ask [23 Aug 2008|10:18am]

Ok, I'm 23 years old.  I've been study pagan religions, wicca and other areas since I was 14 years old.  Since I started young(not as young as many :) ) I did have a few periods in my life where I put some really important aspects of my life on the back burner.  I have always considered myself an ecclectic witch, but I must be honest and admit that I have entirely slacked off.  I remember SO much of what I have learned, but I feel like I should start from the very beginning instead of just trying to catch up.  Yes, I feel like I deserve to be reprimanded because something like this should be one of the top things on my prioriety list.

I went through several moves and heart-wrenching experiences and thus have lost most of my resources and I do not know where to begin.  I have very little finances so books are few and far in between.  I have some of my personal records that weren't destroyed, but I would like to read some other information.  Does anyone know of any internet sites that are informative?  I just need some ideas of where to begin.  Like I said, I remember ALOT, but I WANT to start over.  Kinda redeem myself with a little hard work.  I have no one in my life to offer guidence.  My husband doesn't feel the same strong connection to the earth and the God and Goddess as I do, but he is respectful of my beliefs.  Because of this, I am respectful of his so I would not ask him for advice mostly becuase he would not know what to give me.

I have been watching this community for some time and I am thrilled at the amount of information that is exchanged here and of how open everyone is to helping each other.  If anyone could offer me some advice or encouragement I would SO much appreciate it.  Things are starting to come together in my life now and soon our finances will improve, so I have more time that I can put forth and I can truly dedicate myself to the things I love.  I will soon be able to collect more resources and such, but for now I have to use things that I have around the house.  Does anyone have any ideas as what things around the house can be used and for what thier uses would be?

I know I have thrown alot of questions into this, but please!  Any help of any sort would do me alot of good!  Thank you in advance for the support!  :)

Stone Energy [15 Aug 2008|04:03pm]

[ mood | tingly ]

So I was getting some things for a spell at our local store the other day. I picked up a citrine stone and for the first time in my life a jolt went up my arm, just shy of painful and kept tingling the entire time I was holding it, even when I moved it to my other hand so I could keep sifting through stones.

Obviously, I bought this one.

Question: Has this happened to you, what was your experience and what does this mean to you?

Me, I'm not exactly sure what to do with the stone. I was just going to put it in my pouch but...I dunno. The connection was just so immediate and strong, it feels strange to just hide it away like that.

question for the crowd [06 Aug 2008|09:36pm]

on another sight some pagans and satanist were discussing the black book. In a since a book where you write down people who are on your shit list for the day..for example people say "aaaahhh I want to kill her"..do they mean literally..no
but your mad so you want to get it out.. so if put this in writing.. I.E
people said:: my shit list, people I want to kill today, ect..

so question is.. your not putting spell, hex or curse on them..
but writing it down makes you feel better than hanging on to the negative than I don't see the problem.
I know most wiccan don't believe this.
I believe in Harm None but sometimes Karma gets people the same..
If you are a miserable person and mean to people on a daily basis and take it out on people cuz you can.. and I've been told I just need to take it cuz she spend so much money at my store..(WTF)but this person I think..deserves her miserable life cause she is bringing everyone down and if she isn't trying to improve her life them her problem.
I don't wish anyone to be in an accident or get a disease but sometimes I wish they'd just stub their toe or walk into a wall..
is this wrong? and is putting down in a book wrong?
just wondering people thoughts..

Connecting with Dead Pet [29 Jul 2008|12:01pm]

A friend of mine just lost her beloved kitten.
She was not able to say goodbye to him for she was informed after his passing that he was put down.
I was trying to think of a way she could say goodbye to him without actually being there and I can't think of anything. I was wondering if any of you had any ideas that I could use with her. My kitten is her kitten's little brother.

European Pagan Memory Day [08 Jul 2008|11:26am]

"Historia magistra vitae", so Cicero defines history in his "De oratore". History, the memory of past events and processes as a warning for the future.

Those who want today define themselves pagan or link themselves back to old religions, can’t ignore the history they are making their own. As we can’t pretend that nothing has changed and create an utopia of past revival by deleting the historical distance between us and the ancient ones, since the essence of pagan religio is also to live it in everyday life, so we can’t ignore that distance, avoiding looking at the past, and so risking of repeating the same errors.

The memory, above all memory of past obstacles, is something fundamental and we absolutely can’t pretend not to see slaughterings and destructions occurred to pagan people during history. A pagan person who wants to call him/herself in this way can’t believe that an excuse is enough to rub off the dust of temples destroyed by Constance and his successors, the blood of Saxons exterminated by Charlemagne, the ashes of witches burnt on a stake. And s/he can’t also bear that this happens in society in which s/he lives.

To look for and to give knowledge of these facts: this is the aim of this proposal of a European Pagan Memory Day, a day in which we can remember horrors in order to not forget them. But also a day in which celebrate the rebirth of paganism, because if there is a Pagan Memory Day, there are Pagan people who remember.

So we need to choose a date that all groups across Europe can celebrate, with actions of divulgation above all, and with rites that everyone feel to. Maybe it’s possible to institute a date for every European country, fixing a significant date for each, and it’s desirable that each country really does this. But I want to propose a common date, that can be considered significant in the process leading to the annihilation of paganism in Europe, process that lasted, starting from this date even though it began much earlier, almost one thousand year. This date is the 24th February: it was the year 391 e.v. and in this day was enacted Theodosius’ edict which forbade all forms of cult and even to look at statues. Other edicts were enacted the same year, but what is most important of all, and that made me choose this day, is that in that year Vesta’s fire was set off in Rome’s temple. A sign of the obscurantism that started under Constantine and was destined to spread until its triumph in 1386 e.v., the year of official conversion of Lithuania, last pagan country in Europe; eleven years ago, last Hierophant of Eleusi had already announced it.

The institution of an European Pagan Memory Day is therefore important for reconstruction of paganism that must be done over the ashes, still hot, of what remains of ancient paganism.

Agree to this initiative by signing the online petition and spreading knowledge about these fact and about paganism.

Academics & studies [16 May 2008|09:27am]

Hi from a lurker, you've probably seen me commenting on some things now and again. Not much for introductions, though if you'd like to know more about me, go ahead and ask.

The question: does anyone here do any rituals or use specific deities for schoolwork, academics, studying hard, doing well on papers or exams, learning (in all forms, traditional or nontraditional), etc? I've looked (albeit not very hard) previously, but I don't remember turning up anything.

The one thing I've used previously is utilizing the Heirophant tarot card, which can be interpreted as education in the traditional institution sense, but I'd love to hear more about more individual learning than traditional education institutions. (Yes, among many things I study education.)

Thanks in advance! I'm going to cross-post this in a few relevant comms, sorry for repeats if you're subscribed to them too.

Tarot Question [03 Mar 2008|09:00pm]

[ mood | curious ]

It's a shot in the dark, but here we go...

Does anyone know if there are cards that balance each other out in the Tarot? I'm specifically looking for a card to "balance" the Three of Swords. I got it as a tattoo when I was younger and never really bothered looking at the meaning (I just thought the design looked awesome). Lately I've been wondering if my "luck" over the years hasn't had something to do with this tattoo.

Any help would be appreciated!

Newbie Intro [03 Mar 2008|12:00am]

Hello all, Just joined. Been on LJ a while (a few years), can't believe I never checked out this community before. It seems to reflect A LOT of what I'm about. Dedicated myself to the Goddess oh about 9 almost 10 years ago. I've participated in a few rituals as a guest of a few covens but mainly I've been a solitary and very eclectic as far as where I get my spirituality from. Raised in christianity and catholicism, studied buddhism (absolutely loved that, still do), and I have a lot of Taino Indian in me so I'm very interested in Shamanism. I guess I joined because I love a spirited debate about religion and philosophy. Its part of what I hope my own community ( ljbookofshadows yeah shameless plug. Sorry about that, won't happen again) will blossom into. Its not even a month old but I'm very interested in the spirituality within pagan paths and the fact that much of the time, its sort of neglected. Anyway, the fact that this community seems to be up for that discussion, is a good sign that people aren't just interested in spells. (Which makes my little Wiccan heart beat faster with happiness.) Anyway, hi. Looking forward to reading posts.

A Christian Nation? My Pagan Ass It Is! [02 Nov 2007|08:45pm]

‘Freedom and the expression of Free Will - liberty with responsibility - was the God of the founding fathers, a great one that few organized religions or institututional governments wish to recognize or deal with, regardless of what they teach you in school, save by the sword, raging fists, pointy fingers, cruel thoughts and other forms of physical, financial, and mental penetration and torment.’
The Faery King 2007

During Samhain, more visions and experiences with many of the ascended elders come to me. At 6am, the morning after this sacred holiday, I became violently ill at what I saw of the possible future...

Those long passed, who tried to co-exist with the indigenous peoples of the world, weep from both the grave and the heavens, as do those who truly believed enough in the promise of liberty to set up a dream to end all dreams; that of a nation in which freedom is not only encouraged, but protected under law, The United States of America.

The Art of Creating Life [19 Sep 2007|10:29am]

Rethinking everything is a great idea once in awhile.
By The Faery King

Let's consider rethinking some things…

My Buddhist Master, Martin Singh, smiled at me one day after I had given my lecture on DNA and its possible interpretation in terms of Reincarnation. "My friend" he said, "it takes a very special pain in the ass to piss off a room full of Buddhist monks, and you did it!"

In my twenty minutes at the lectern, I explained how scientists had constructed a projector, which projected a number of different bird silhouettes and those of other animals upon a giant screen, in an attempt to see how other animals behaved at the sight of said images. Caged rodents under these images were monitored for a reaction and different animals responded differently to what they saw.

Some of the birds had been extinct for some 200 years, and one of those birds had found a certain little rodent to be their version of Beef Wellington.

This brave little rodent had no real natural enemy that inspired such a level of terror left after these particular birds of prey were no more.

When they saw the projections of birds that might look upon them as a hors d'--uvre, birds they were not familiar with, they went about their business. When their natural enemy, now extinct for hundreds of years, was projected in silhouette upon the wall, the brave little rodents began to freak out.

One might deduce from this that there is hardwired memory in living creatures, just as there is in plants, which is perhaps one facet that might explain changes, which occur in evolution.

DNA is a frontier science, and we have no idea just how much of its encryption we are still unaware of, how much of living experience from a time gone bye is recorded, in addition to things like eye color, etc, that are concealed within its code, so it does not seem that I am going too far out on a limb when I suggest that what we might have thought was the Deja Vu of reincarnation is actually the hard wired memory of our ancestors experience, a thought seemingly backed up by the behavior of this particular rodent.

This is no less magical or wondrous and there is great magic in the science yet to be, as you will see from this video clip that my partner, a scientist himself turned me onto.

Take a moment and let your imagination soar and travel, as you take in the work of Theo Jansen. We are at another stage of our own evolution and we do need to think differently than we do now about many things if we are to survive as a species, into the coming age.

I know that this theory of mine shoots the traditional Buddhist belief of reincarnation right in its mystic and metaphorical ass. I did not wake up one morning and decide to be unkind to another's sacred belief. Those things that allow me to ponder and wonder at what is or what might be are no less sacred to me.

We are now coming up with new ways of creating artificial intelligence and life.

A number of things do disturb me about this, especially the idea of machines evolving to think and their keeping us out of the loop once they know how. The importance of using good ethics in science is critical, which is why I believe in self-policing and keeping organized religion and government's out of much of scientific development but that is another topic for another time.

The thought of a world of aggressive and murderous human hunting machines that look and sound like Arnold Schwarzenegger scares the crap out of me. Violence is one aspect of human behavior we do not want the machines to sport.

With that said; I do believe that human kind will create intelligent life that can live independently of and from us.

Take a peek at what Jordan Hronec-De Liso introduced me to, on creating creatures.

The art of creating creatures by Theo Jansen:

1. I used to collect crystals and stones as a kid (though my mom always threw them away) without really thinking about it. I just thought them lovely. I now restarted a little "collection" and am curious to what their magickal properties are.

2. Problem. Though I do own Cunningham's Encyclopedia of Crysta, Gem and Metal Magic, out of the handful of rocks, I only know two or three of them. Does anybody know where I could find a place, book, person, where I could match up the pictures of my stones to know what they are?

Your help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Alternative Reincarnation Communities [31 Jul 2007|11:35pm]

Here are a couple of reincarnation-focused groups that a friend and I are running, which are open to Magick and other alternative viewpoints:

alt_pastlives: The purpose of alt_pastlives is to foster brotherhood between people who believe in reincarnation and hold an interest in past lives. The twist, though, is that views and past life memories which are unsavoury to talk about on other places and which may not be commonly accepted are welcome here.

We accept posts on anything related to the topic of Past Life, including PL memories, metaphysical discussion, etc. (Borderline OT posts are permitted.)

Reincarnation FreeForum: http://reincarnation.freeforums.org/index.php

This forum is for the discussion of all topics related to reincarnation, multiple lives, and alternate selves, including topics sometimes regarded as "taboo" or controversial. We aim to provide room for expression of the full range of views, and an environment for personal growth, spiritual development and intellectual exploration.

Blogathon! [27 Jul 2007|03:25pm]

So, tomorrow I'm doing Blogathon on my personal LJ, fallonmay. I'll be blogging 24 hours straight, every thirty minutes, to try and raise money for charity.

My sponsored charity is the Human Rights Campaign.

About the HRC:
The Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender equality. By inspiring and engaging all Americans, HRC strives to end discrimination against GLBT citizens and realize a nation that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all.

Even if you don't donate through my LJ for HRC, please find another journal to sponsor.

About Blogathon:
First some terminology: "blog" is a shortened version of "weblog" which is a frequently updated personal website. Most blogs have date stamps on the entries, and consist of links and commentary.

Now, remember when you were in school and you would bowl for charity? And for every pin you knocked down you got, say, ten cents? Or run for a dollar a mile? During the Blogathon, people update their websites every 30 minutes for 24 hours straight. For this, they collect sponsorships. Pledges can be a flat donation, or a certain amount for every hour the blogger manages to stay awake.

pagan zines? [23 Jun 2007|04:04pm]

Lately, I've been looking for pagan/wiccan zines, but I haven't found many. Maybe that's because there are so many websites, forums, magazines, and books already devoted to the subject. Yet other topics like food, crafts, and music have multiple zines about them and just as much presence on the internet.

Does the zine community need a pagan zine or is there a reason why there hasn't been that many (that I could find)?

I'm interested in creating a pagan comp zine with articles, interviews, and reviews from different people focusing on many different topics. If you interested please leave a comment.
